Every client’s needs are unique. When you schedule your first appointment, the Intake Representative will gather a brief history from you and the reason you are requesting services. They will assist you with cost and insurance questions, as well as any questions about starting treatment.
Your first session is the initial assessment. Your therapist will discuss what form of treatment, i.e. individual, family therapy, medication management, you would most benefit from and how often the sessions will be scheduled. Typical therapy sessions are scheduled weekly or bi-weekly and last 50 minutes. Duration and frequency of your session is dependent upon your needs. Initial assessments for adults with the psychiatrist will last for one hour. Initial assessments for children generally last 1 hour. Medication checks are between 15-30 minutes long, and are scheduled on a basis that is consistent with your needs.
For all current clients, if you require emergency services outside of our general business hours, our answering service will take your name and phone number and a trained on-call clinician will return your call.
The Center for Family Development of Lowell offers specialized services by providing Intensive Home Based Family Treatment Services. Presently under contract with both the Department of Social Services and the Department of Mental Health our clinical team provides a unique and comprehensive array of care and services to children and adolescents and their families in the Merrimack Valley Area. After a referral is made to the clinic by a DSS or DMH representative a clinician will go to the family’s home and provide a thorough assessment of the family’s strengths and needs and develop a treatment plan that incorporates the results of the assessment. Mentors are also available to provide support and activities for children in the family according to need and appropriateness. These plans are developed in collaboration with the family the clinician, and the DSS or DMH representative.
In addition, The Center for Family Development of Lowell offers training programs for both Doctoral Level Psychologists and Second Year MSW students. For more information regarding the training program please refer to the Contact Section.
